According to Oprah “The Secret” it is believing and thinking positivity into the things you want in life. This message is and isn’t the way to go about things in life. She believes if you continue to think positive and almost self-fulfilling thoughts you will achieve all the things you want in life. As stated before I believe this is a good way yet a bad way to obtain something. Let’s start with the good, this is a great idea if you have the resources to think and chant and obtain the things you desire in life. I’ll admit myself a lot of great things have happened for me because I honestly though nothing but positive thoughts about what it was that I wanted but I always had the resources to obtain my goal. Let’s say you do think these positive thoughts but there are no resources around you to help further this goal that you’ve set, what are you to do now? Without resources to support your goal how will you obtain the things you desire? Oprah didn’t explain that part her only explanation was think it and it will come. And half the time it doesn’t work like that, just because someone doesnt acheive something is because of how they think ?. In others words Oprah is basically portraying to the people who don’t have the means to support their dreams get up and go do something with yourself. I view that as oh well too bad for you better luck next time.

”The book boldly and ignorantly states, "The only reason any person does not have enough money is because they are blocking money from coming to them with their thoughts.

" Tell that to the 36 million Americans living in poverty. Even worse, tell that to the 3 billion people worldwide who live on less that $2 a day.”

Identity Crisis

The women of today are strong, powerful, intelligent, and
independent. Women of today have hobbies hold jobs raise children and hold a
household together. I think it’s pretty safe to say we as women are super
heroes. In the 1950’s things were much different than today. Why weren’t women
aloud to work? Why weren’t women allowed to have hobbies? Because it wasn’t the
norm. Women in that era didn’t have their own identity. Their lives consisted
of keeping the house clean, caring for the children, and pampering their
husbands at every waking moment of their lives. Those women didn’t have a
moment to breathe or take time to relax to themselves; they had no time to
dabble in projects that didn’t concern the daily duties of a housewife. Just
imagine not being able to get your nails done, read a book, have lunch with
your girlfriends and talk about things that didn’t matter. Imagine having to
baby everyone in your household even your husband and no one caring or asking
how your day went. There is clearly a problem of identity crisis within this
time, nothing revolved around these women but their husband and children, their
families were their accomplishments. After a while not being able to have time
to yourself can have an effect on how you view your life. I can only imagine
the pity and unfulfilled feelings they must have had for their lives if those
thoughts would ever cross their minds.
“As for Block’s mother, her frustrations were rooted in
deep sexual dissatisfaction and, more importantly, the dichotomy of the hectic
demands of raising three children as a reputable community housewife and the
gradual realization of how boring and unsatisfying such a lifestyle is. My
favorite line in the whole film is when her best friend states that women in
the 50s started to figure out that there was more to life than keeping the
house clean, and that’s when the houses got dirty.”

In the film The Hours Julianne Moore depicts
a housewife who clearly isnt happy.
”Julianne
Moore gives a subtle, quietly tense perf as the despondent housewife, Laura
Brown, who wants out of her marriage and motherhood and contemplates getting out
by drastic means. On this one day, Dan birthday, her tensions over her
desperation reach a peak. She knows she should think different about her life
but her feelings for self-preservation win out over her duty to Dan. Moore
proves herself one fine actor and puts a very different spin and character from
her other 50suburban housewife perf in Far From Heaven.”

reality Vs. REALITY !

reality Vs. REALITY

In the world of television we get skewed information of what life really is. We see the glitz, glam, and perfection of the sit com life, but is that really how average American citizens live on a day to day basis. The answer is no, when it comes to race and class the world see's two different images of life. For example sit coms such as The Fresh Prince of Belair and The Cosby Show show the great side of African-American living. You see the average upper-middle class family with working parents and well educated children. But change to station to your local news you will most likely see something along the lines of black men being associated with crime. Not to say that there aren't any affluent black families in the world there are but they don't represent the whole 13% of my race.

The Cosby's was cool but television is a lie

for some reason i relate to survival Fresh

Prince with no Uncle Phil The Carltons that

I knew never stayed where we lived couldnt play

play with those kids while they was reading books

we was playing cops and crooks....

As Small As A Giant - BIG KRIT.

This verse is from Rapper Big Krit's song As Small As A Giant. You can clearly see his frustration with the way media was portrayed while he was growing up in a completely different environment.
